Info: Heavily decorated New Zealand DMC, ITF and All-star beatdown champ, DJ P-Money has turned his hand to producing beats for his local contingent of MC’s. His latest album, Big Things shows that he’s more than capable of handling himself behind the decks as he is behind the boards.
Upon the first listen of this CD, P-Money’s production styles lean towards the underground side of hip hop yet still maintaining a distinct street feel. Scribe 2001 kicks off the album with a head-nodding beat and a wicked acoustic guitar loop – P-Money’s take on the underground west coast US scene.
P-Money also explores the more accessible sound of hip hop on joints like Synchronize Thoughts and even going all out to include 10 MC’s on the posse track Big Things, while still maintaining true to his turntablist roots on Stay Dirty feat. a beat juggle breakdown in between MC Unique’s verses.
The Freshmaker sees P-Money going all crazy on the sampler using Bom Bom (done by none other than YOUR mum!) samples for the beat while highly featured collaborator Scribe bigs him up on the mike – similar to what Ugly Duckling did for Eye On the Gold Chain.
Big Things shows that P-Money is capable of even bigger things than just winning titles, he can create phat beats and incorporate wicked routines into them as well, without overshadowing his MC collaborators.
